Product Description

An ammonia cracker, NH3-Cracker or hydrogen generator is used for the production of forming gas. Hydrogen and Nitrogen are generated in a cost effective way in a volume ratio of 3 : 1 or in a weight ratio of 14 : 3. Capacities from 5m3/h to 250m3/h are available.

Working Principle:

Ammonia Cracker for generation of forming gas, takes liquid ammonia as the source. Having being vaporized, the ammonia then is heated and decomposes into the forming gas with 25% nitrogen and 75% hydrogen under the action of catalyst. In theory, one Kg of ammonia can produce 2.64 Nm3 mixed gas.


Cracking of ammonia is one of the most economical ways for on-site generation of hydrogen gas for industrial purpose.

In fact, nitrogen gas is generally inert. This mixture is treated as pure hydrogen gas. This becomes the most economical, trusted, tried and dependable source of on-site hydrogen generation for many small and large industries. A molecular sieve purifier is used after ammonia cracking unit for reducing residual ammonia content and to get very dry gas. This reduces ammonia down to 5 ppm level and dries gas up to -60 Deg.C. dew point.

Properties and Characteristics:
1) Save water and electricity: No water is used in the the ammonia decomposing process, thus save water effectively; The heat generated from the decomposition reaction is used to preheat the ammonia so as to save the electricity.
2) Resistance wire can be replaced quickly: It can be replaced only within a few minutes, no need to stop the gas production process. Therefore, the case of shutting down the furnace to cool down and then opening the furnace to replace the resistance wire is avoided.

5) Low operation cost: Less investment, liquid ammonia as source is cheap, low energy consumption, high efficiency, low operation cost; It is the most economical source of the mixed protective atmosphere of nitrogen and hydrogen.
